A private jet carrying Brazilian guitarist Marília Mendonça crashed Saturday in northern Brazil, killing her and her teenage daughter, a government official said.

A crash on Saturday was reported on national radio. Media showed images of the wreckage burning in the woods near a closed university campus in the northern state of Paraiba.

“The cargo manifest showed that the plane belonged to the Millau Group,” Paraiba state Civil Defense Director Paulo Pontes said. “Brazil’s civil aviation authority said that two girls on board who traveled with Marília were age 14 and 15. But we cannot confirm that.”

A task force set up to investigate the crash’s cause has launched its investigation, he said.

The daughter’s name was Loretta Mendonça.

The crew of the AMX Tucano left the group’s hometown of Manaus on Saturday morning headed for the city of Rio Branco, where they were scheduled to perform at a resort later in the day, the Brazilian news agency Agencia Brasil reported.
