Peng Shuai suffered an illness which forced her out of the season’s second Grand Slam event

Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai has disappeared from social media after suffering an illness that forced her to withdraw from the WTA Finals.

Shuai, 31, was well beaten by Garbine Muguruza in the semi-finals on Thursday but then went silent.

She was then reported missing by her international management company, Uniqlo, who said she was suffering from a bout of bronchitis.

But the Peng Shuai Fan Forum posted photos of the world number 37 from social media.

While the official Shuai Shuai Fan Forum’s official Twitter account has been deleted, the comment below the photo is still visible.

Chinese tennis writer Julia Chatsworth has been tracking the Shuai Shuai Fan Forum’s posts, including images of the player with and without her expensive-looking pair of sunglasses.

“Peng Shuai is a multi-talented female tennis player and especially China’s No1. She had a match in front of the whole nation on Sunday which they were very excited for,” Chatsworth wrote on the Tennis World China website.

“I hope she will get well soon and be able to come back and support her fans again. Her absence is very sad.”
