Who could blame Donald Trump for wanting to live his whole life to the ripe old age of 168? Not only that, he was the richest person in the world as of Thursday, according to Forbes. His net worth would be a staggering $3.4 billion, as would his age, which is way ahead of economist and politician Benjamin Disraeli’s usual age of 108.
But Trump was, of course, not born as a celebrity. Born in New York on Jan. 9, 1946, to an immigrant father from Scotland, the future president spent his life at the heart of real estate, working for his father in their multi-billion-dollar building empire. With a sprawling property portfolio and multiple divorces under his belt, he transformed himself into one of the richest men in America, with his wealth concentrated in a handful of Trump Towers and the marketing company GEM. His net worth tripled between the 1997 and 2016 – the year that he was inaugurated as president – but he still suffers from one bugbear: ageism.
